Q: I am going to try the drip tape but need to know how long it is I should set the timer for watering one inch.

Asked by: Marta - 2/2/2022
A: This is an "It depends" answer. Your soil type, water pressure, and types of plants will all affect the watering results. Sandy soil will allow water to penetrate deeper faster. Clay soil will slow the penetration and allow the water to spread out farther. Water pressure can vary greatly, as can the length of tubing - each of which will affect how fast water will come out of the tubing. You should run the water and test at 15 minutes, 30 minutes, 45 minutes, etc. until the desired depth is acquired.

Q: What the best spacing between drip tape rows, 8", 12" or? 8mil or 15mil tape what size will last longer? Thank you.

Asked by: Eric Darrow - 9/29/2021
A: The best spacing is actually dependent on your crops and your spacing. For compact/dense gardens or high water use crops, spacing the drip tape lines about 10-12 inches apart works good. For less dense garden spacing or crops - 12-14 inches might work better for you. For the trees at Two Peace - I've spaced my lines about 2-3 feet apart.

Q: Does the pressure reducer have treads on both ends? I'm curious if I can attach it straight to my poly tube then to the drip tape? Thanks

Asked by: Rick - 4/1/2022
A: The PSI reducer does have threads on both ends. The ends are female. This works right after the valve or in line with the poly tubing, but will not work in line with the drip tape itself.

Q: We just purchased a whole house water filter system, that will backwash 25 gallons every 4 days. I want to use that to water the garden. Your drip tape was discussed in a garden chat i saw. 1. do you have any videos to show how to use and set it up? I will also need tubing to get water from tank exit to garden drip tape attachment. Any videos or books you could point me to showing supplies and set up would be greatly appreciated.

Asked by: Cheryl - 7/29/2021
A: Cheryl,

First thing I would want to know is what is in the backwash water? It likely contains all the stuff in your incoming water that you don't want to drink. Chlorine, fluoride, minerals and such. I would NOT use that water for your garden.

Is it a softener? If it is it is likely that it is putting salt in the water to soften the water. THAT will likely kill your plants.

I would need to know more about what is in the backwash before I can answer this.

Q: Sorry, I found the video about drip tape installation. Question is , will this drip tape system work with backwash system? I cannot put any pressure regulator on the outflow. What happens if the PSI is more than 10? I apologize in advance if these are stupid questions.

Asked by: Cheryl - 7/29/2021
A: NO questions are stupid if you are trying to learn. We actually appreciate questions that we've not had before as they help us frame answers for questions others might be thinking of asking. I hope we addresses some of your concerns about backwash. We are reluctant to endorse any backwash use from a water treatment system as this water is probably high in elements you don't want to add to your yard. Please watch our event calendar and join us for one of our Drip Tape classes. We cover more on this process there.

Q: i have a 6 x 15 garden… 90bsq ft. your bundle services a 4 x 25 garden… 100 sq. ft. i am assuming one bundle will be enough except perhaps the dimensions won’t work for the supplies included

Asked by: cathy rooney - 9/14/2021
A: Hi, Your garden will need a starter kit and an extra barb. We also recommend having a spare barb just in case.

Q: What is the flow rate, gpm, of each orifice of this drip tape? How do you handle varying water requirements per plant(s)?

Asked by: Jerry L Stahl - 3/30/2022
A: 1/2 gallon per hour per emitter. For plants that require more or less water - they should be placed on a different zone.

Q: I am currently using inline emitter 1/4 tubing in my raised bed vegetable garden. I find the emitters are inconsistent in delivering water and clog due to our high mineral content water. Would drip tape solve this problem?

Asked by: James - 4/30/2022
A: Drip tape does not clog as easily as the 1/4 emitters do. They are also easier to clean out by just rubbing your fingers down the tape. Due to the flat design, water free flows past the emitters reaching all of them with the same pressure at the same time. This will reduce the clogs and make them easier to clear.

Q: About how much water per hour comes from each drip emitter?

Asked by: Scott - 6/8/2022
A: This is an "It depends" answer. Your soil type, water pressure, and types of plants will all affect the watering results. Water pressure can vary greatly, as can the length of tubing - each of which will affect how fast water will come out of the tubing. Typically the water will come out at about 0.46 gph for this drip tape. You could run the water and test at 15 minutes, 30 minutes, 45 minutes, etc. to confirm results for your set-up.

Q: I have 3/4 in pvc with 1/4 “ tubing to emitters throughout my yard and garden. How would I utilize drip tape with it?

Asked by: Mikeycaz - 3/17/2023
A: Drip Tape does NOT work in the same system with standard irrigation emitters. It needs to be on it's own valve with PVC or Poly Tubing leading to the garden, then using barbs the drip tape is extended across the desired location. The key is that the drip tape system has a reduced pressure with the aptly named pressure reducer of 10PSI.

Q: I have seven freezers and refrigerators that I will be using for raised beds. I am not sure how much drip tape to purchase and what all I will need to make a watering system. How can I calculate all of the small parts, etc?

Asked by: Julie - 5/26/2023
A: WOOHOO! Excited to see that you are thinking outside of the box! So the way you calculate your system is step 1) Measure the short end of the box and for each foot you will need one barb. Step 2) measure the long end of the box and add 4-6 extra inches (for the fold over), then multiply this number times the other number as this is the total number of feet in length you will need of drip tape. Hope that help - Janis

Q: Can you use a spigotted water barrel to provide water to the tapes? Or would you need higher water pressure?

Asked by: Tammy - 6/5/2023
A: 1) A smaller container like that will not be enough to push the water through the filter with any speed. Your patience may give up on you. 2) Rainwater is not going to need a KDF filter.
