Kumquat, Nagami

The Nagami Kumquat fruit has edible sweet skin and sour pulp, and grows abundantly as a bush or tree with dense evergreen foliage.  A standout with its edible skin, in fact, the skin is the sweet part of the fruit and is sometimes the only thing eaten. The flesh is juicy but very sour and acidic, akin to the flavor of a lemon. Among the most cold-tolerant of all citruses, however the Nagami fruit tends to be sweeter when grown in warmer environments. These trees almost always bloom in the summer but tend to flower periodically throughout the year. The prolific white fragrant flowers and small orange fruit make the plant very ornamental. The Nagami Kumquat is used in Bonsai and is definitely suitable for large pots.
